I spent 15 years of my career as a professional photographer and creative director in South East Asia — shooting international fashion editorials, brand campaigns, and, yes at times, rubbing shoulders with big-shot celebrities.

It was an incredible world to be part of, and I’m so grateful for the opportunities it gave me, like those times I was on TV (guest judge on Asia’s Next Top Model and resident judge on Photo Face-Off). I was even lucky enough to travel the world for work, something that I, as a little girl from a tiny town in the middle of the NT, couldn’t have imagined I would do.

But like many people, everything shifted during Covid.

It was at that time, I became a mother to our adopted son, who carried hurt and trauma within him. Suddenly, the high-intensity, fast-paced life I had built no longer felt the same or important.

That was the first time in my career-driven life, I wanted it all to slow down.

Soon after, came along my daughter, and I found myself in crisis, longing to simplify the schedules and give my children the kind of childhood I had: barefoot days in the dirt under wide open skies.

And so, here I am today. Back in Australia and living life as a freelance creative & stay-at-home mum, just trying to work it out.

An entirely different person to who I was five years ago. Someone who now savours slow, quiet mornings with a cuppa and a pair of secateurs in hand (when I can find them).

Don’t get me wrong, there are days where I miss the chaos of production, the glitzy events, and yes… the PR goodie bags.

But nothing quite compares to this time, right now, trying to find a new path and rhythm amongst the quiet conversations I have with my plants.

They truly make the best listeners (well, much better than the kids anyways 🫠).

It has been a long humbling “transitional” journey for me too. We can only hope that somehow it will all connect back to what we’re supposed to do in this world…

What an amazing adventure of experiences! Can relate to you on many levels. 💕 We are different people at different seasons throughout our lives, and becoming a mother and motherhood brings us to our truest selves that transforms our identity and sense of self with a mixture fulfilment, disorientation, identity and personal growth. 💕 wishing you all the best! ✨

A beautiful story and thank you for sharing it with us. I can relate to much of what you have said. I think many of us can. There comes a time when the chaos and uncertainty (I was an ED nurse) are no longer exciting and fun. The noise starts to filter in and it becomes louder and louder and eventually you can’t hear yourself think and your soul starts to drown. It’s not easy to let go of what we know but once it’s no longer comfortable I think we start to manifest a more comfortable place to be 🍃
