My monthly reading wrap-up is a little different this time. It's been a very difficult time for me. I got Scoops as a kitten when I was in my mid 20s. He died at home after a brief but aggressive fight with kidney disease. As he got older I became more and more aware that our time together may be coming to an end, but honestly nothing could have prepared me for this loss. His death has absolutely devastated me. 17 and a half years wasn't enough, no amount of time would have been. I've struggled to find joy in my normal ways. He kept me company while I read, often putting himself quite literally between me and my book, and I loved that - he was so bossy, and had zero problems demanding the affection he deserved. I miss him every second. I picked up and put back down several books this month before finally rereading some ridiculous (but actually amazing) zompoc books as a comfort read.

📚 What are some books you've read while experiencing loss? My mother died just over 3 years ago, and a few books that felt right for me at that time were Project Hail Mary, Remarkably Bright Creatures, and 10 Things That Never Happened.

💔 I would love to know what books have helped you through your most difficult times.

😼 And please, tell me your cat's names, and kiss their foreheads for me.

I’m so deeply sorry for the loss of Scoops. As a fellow cat parent to two kitties, my heart breaks for you. I cannot begin to imagine the painful void he leaves behind. It must be so unbelievably hard to lose him. May God give you strength and peace during this very difficult time. Rest in peace, sweet boy

Sending you a giant hug and all the love. It is so hard to lose our fur babies. They are family and the most loyal of friends. My Maine coon Mochi is currently snuggled on my chest and my Scaredy Cat Slade is coming in for cuddles too. Loving them extra hard in Scoops’ honor. I don’t know if you have ever watched Song of the Sea or The Secret of Kells but those two movies are my biggest comfort watches. When I can’t find peace in a book I turn to those and they bring all the cozy nature comfort. ❤️ maybe they will help you too.

Scoooooops! 🧡 what an amazing cat, I’m so lucky to have met him! Mishi and Scooter will get special pets from you today, they are also adamant about attention.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so hard losing our soul animals. And i feel like how hard it is is not really talked about that much. I totally feel you 🩷💜❤️

I lost my girl, Rizzo, in September. She was 16. I think about her all of the time. I wasn't able to physically read much after losing her, so I listened to audiobooks ... but I genuinely don't even remember what they were.

Not being able to read is a rarely spoken about side effect of grief. All the more ironic when we as readers turn to books to feel better. I’m sorry. My own Pippin and Merry send cuddles.

That's heartbreaking 💔 I'm so sorry you lost your heart cat. Mine was a black cat named Mally. She would attach herself to me whenever I felt sad or anxious. Sending internet hugs while you grieve ❤️

I lost my orange cat, Trick, years ago. She was my heart cat, about 16, and kidney failure took her. The Tenth Good Thing About Barney by Viorst helped and the e.e. cummings poem I carry your heart. Sending love and hugs. The grief is so real. I have other kitties now, but Trick lives in my heart forever. 💔💔
