Norway has built a system that turns natural resources, public policy, and long-term planning into an unusually high standard of living. Its oil wealth is invested through one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds, public universities are heavily subsidized, prisons emphasize rehabilitation, and strong institutions help keep corruption relatively low. Norway also protects broad access to nature through its “right to roam,” making outdoor life a major part of the culture. Add in its fjords, strong public services, high trust, and outsized success in winter sports, and it’s easy to see why Norway often feels like it’s playing with a different set of advantages. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he would move to Israel and become its prime minister if Americans grew tired of him. “In fact, if people ever got tired of me in the U.S., I’ll move to Israel, become prime minister,” Trump said during an Election Day phone interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.” Trump made the remark while discussing U.S.-Israeli relations and claiming a 99% approval rating in Israel. He did not cite polling to support that figure.
