Dear THE Southern University and A&M College,
Thank you for showing me what it means to take up space in a field that doesn’t always reflect me. Thank you for reminding me that I belong at every table I step to, and that I carry more than just myself when I walk in.
I came in searching for direction, but I’m leaving with identity, discipline, and a standard I refuse to lower. My path took me through other schools, but it was here, on this yard, that I was refined into the Black nurse I was always meant to be.
Southern didn’t just prepare me for nursing, it prepared me for a world that tries to test my character. I leave knowing how to stand in my purpose, walk in my calling, and represent excellence with no apologies.
This isn’t just a degree, this is a legacy I created. HBCU made. Built for every room I step in and every room they didn’t expect me to.
With love,
Jaidah E. Jackson, BSN
