“Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.” That’s how I would define this piece by Maan Saeed for the Lahore Kathak Festival.

Maan has trained extensively in Kathak and different modern forms, but what moved me most was seeing Graham technique flow so naturally into Kathak vocabulary. Watching that contraction, that release, that emotional weight carried through the body felt deeply personal to me. There is something so powerful about the pain and vulnerability of Graham floor work finding a home inside another classical form.

For me, dance has always been storytelling. So to witness two techniques, both created to express human emotion so truthfully, meet each other on stage felt special. As a Graham artist, I somehow felt included in the conversation.
