Denise Vasquez Pursell

As I mark the first year without my mother, I am reminded of how much I miss her. Although she never drove or worked outside the home, she dedicated herself to raising me and my three siblings. She was resolute in providing me with experiences she was denied, including higher education, travel, and the pleasure of savoring fine food and culture. I cherish the fact that I was able to appreciate her humor and wit later in life, despite her dementia. I am thankful that we were able to put our differences aside and enjoy each other's company, especially when I cooked for her and received her praise. Being present at her 100th birthday was a true privilege. These cherished memories remain with me. To all the Moms out there-Happy Mothers Day!
