Curious if others in the industry have noticed this shift lately too.
I keep seeing professional nanny/family assistant roles labeled as “mother’s helper” when they are very clearly not mother’s helper positions.
And no, this has nothing to do with part-time vs full-time. Plenty of career nannies work part-time.
To me, a mother’s helper has always meant a younger teen assisting while a parent is home and present the entire time. Basically an extra set of hands in the room. I was a mother’s helper when I was 12.
But the jobs I’m seeing labeled this way are requiring independent childcare, driving, meal prep, errands, household support, scheduling, organization, and overall management of parts of the family’s daily life.
That is not a mother’s helper role.
There is nothing wrong with hiring household support or needing help. I just think we should be accurately labeling positions for what they actually are.
