Baby season is currently in full swing at Raven Ridge, and we are continuously seeking ways to make our work easier while ensuring we can reunite baby wildlife with adult animals, whether in the wild or in foster care and rehabilitation settings. We also collaborate with other centers to find additional babies of the same species that we can pair with our lonely goslings.

Recently, we have been admitting many goslings that have been abandoned or orphaned. When we receive these goslings, we keep them for a few days to ensure they are healthy and that no underlying conditions develop. Our team actively looks for Canada geese with families, paying attention to their sizes, so we can reunite the current goslings with a new family. Canada geese are known to accept lonely goslings that need protection. It is not uncommon to see several adult geese caring for a large group of over 30 goslings, which can result from both cooperative care and the competitive stealing of young from other pairs.

We feel excited when we can successfully place these goslings with wild adult Canada geese. This arrangement provides the goslings with the protection and nurturing they require, minimizes the risk of imprinting on humans, and let's face it, the adult geese always do a better job than we can. Our team enjoys witnessing these reunions and observing how quickly the parents accept the new goslings. #ravenridgewildlifecenter #ravenridge #RRWC #canadageese #goslings #lancastercountypa #lancasterpa
