Family and domestic violence continues to impact our communities at alarming rates. Research shows that people who experience family violence are significantly more likely to experience homelessness, mental health challenges, substance misuse and future contact with the justice system. Children exposed to domestic violence are also more likely to experience emotional and behavioural difficulties later in life, highlighting why early intervention and community-led prevention work is critical.
Pasifika communities are often underrepresented in data collection and mainstream service responses, which is why culturally grounded approaches matter.
Our programs create culturally safe spaces to unpack harmful behaviours, strengthen identity, restore healthy relationships and reconnect to the values our cultures were built on, respect, protection, service, humility, accountability and love for family. We believe culture, community and honest talanoa are essential parts of healing and prevention.
Malohi Mana continues to grow. We are now into Term 2, of the program and are honoured to also be rolling this work out inside Villawood Immigration Detention Centre.
A huge thank you to the team at Villawood for welcoming culturally grounded conversations around healing, accountability, identity and relationships.
And our project partners Lendlease and The Mounties Group for investing in Pasifika community-led programs, Faka'apa'apa!
