One of my biggest annoyances in driving is when I try to keep a distance to stay safe (not a huge gap but a safe small one) and someone comes coming in front of me like there is sooo much room for them (in the left lane btw).

Leaving a gap this big is asking people to merge in front of you. You aren’t at speed, you’re creeping through heavy traffic. If you need that much space to stop 23k lbs at 15-20 mph, it’s a skill, confidence, equipment, or attention issue.

You are crawling. You aren't driving 50mph. Relax about the space. You can stop on a dime at the 20mph you are driving.
