With the new adaptation expanding the story across eight episodes, Thornton explores the troubled teenager behind Chris’s cruelty, finding the humanity in a character audiences love to hate. “So much of what Chris does comes from her home life and her lack of emotional support, and a lot of the conversations with Mike [Flanagan] were just about humanizing her and making sure that she doesn’t just come from a place of cruelty for the sake of cruelty. A lot of her bullying Carrie has nothing to do with Carrie.
