Graduated university in July last year, started my first job as a Registered Nurse in September working in my dream area at Starship Hospital, and today I finally get to wear the gown and receive my degree 🎓🩺
Looking back on the 1,100 hours of unpaid placements, working part-time throughout uni, the exhaustion, stress, and moments where I questioned myself… it all feels so worth it. I wanted this so badly. I wanted to be a nurse. To help people, to be there during some of their hardest and most vulnerable days, and to always lead with kindness, warmth, and compassion.
Working at Starship has been everything I hoped for and more. I’m surrounded by the most amazing colleagues who have supported me so much stepping into nursing, many of them becoming very close friends.
The children I care for have touched my heart more than I could ever explain. Their resilience, joy, humour, and courage pull at my heart strings every single shift. Even on the hard days, the little smiles, funny conversations, and moments of trust remind me exactly why I chose this career. They bring so much light and perspective into my life, and caring for them truly feels like such a privilege.
Nursing isn’t always easy. Some days the exhaustion hits hard and you still have to show up and give your all. But despite that, I genuinely love what I do, and I feel so lucky to live the life younger me dreamed of ✨
