I’ve always been drawn to confession,” Jess tells me. “I think there’s something powerful about being as honest as possible…I started playing piano when I was five years old and later attended Tacoma School of the Arts, where a songwriting class pushed me from simply playing music into writing it.”
Now based in Brooklyn with a Master’s in Music Tech, she balances two worlds at once. A software engineer by day and girl rock band singer by night. Jess also spends her free time designing band merch and accessories. Being creative is part of the process.
When asked to describe her music, “Passion, tension, confession.” Most of her songs pull from personal experiences. Relationships, heartbreaks, frustration, and growing into herself. “I make music about things that happened to me…music doesn’t seem like an escape so much as a way of documenting it.”
