Dear beloved Syndicate Family, our new Homecoming Session video is OUT NOW!
This time we present you our rendition on Muddy Waters's "Honey Bee". On January 23, 1951 Muddy Waters recorded Honey Bee in Chess Records studio, Chicago. Muddy Waters adapted the song from an earlier blues standard called "Sail On, Little Girl, Sail On" by Bumble Bee Slim. The ambiance on this early recording of "Honey Bee" leaned towards delta blues sounds, but you can hear the beginnings of the more aggressive, modern urban sound starting to emerge. With accompaniment from Ernest "Big" Crawford on double bass and Little Walter on guitar, it became one of his definitive early tracks, highlighting his distinctive electric slide guitar technique and driving rhythms. The song was re-recorded multiple times by Muddy Waters throughout his career and has also been reworked by his peers and proteges, such as Jimmy Witherspoon, Albert King, Savoy Brown, Buddy Guy and Peter Green among others.
