Why people cling to โ€˜Thingsโ€™ after a LOVED ONE dies? Why do we cling to a loved oneโ€™s things after they die, like the sweater you wonโ€™t wash because it still smells like them? It can look like youโ€™re stuck, but grief researchers say itโ€™s one of the most natural things we do. Psychologists call it a continuing bond. When someone dies, we donโ€™t stop loving them. The relationship changes form, and their belongings become a bridge to them. Their voice, their laugh, the way they said your name can fade over time, and an object brings them rushing back when memory alone canโ€™t. Because these bonds show up in nearly every culture and era, researchers no longer see letting go as the goal of healthy grief. Staying connected is. Neuroscientists have even found that a cherished belonging can light up the same love and attachment regions of the brain that activate when the person is near. Thatโ€™s also why letting go can physically hurt. So if youโ€™re keeping your motherโ€™s handwriting or your husbandโ€™s old jacket, thereโ€™s no deadline to let go and no shame in keeping what comforts you. If grief ever makes daily life hard to manage, talking with a grief counselor can help. Follow for more honest conversations about grief and caregiving, and share this with someone whoโ€™s holding on to something precious.#Grief #Caregiving #HealthyAging
๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ–ค Once a goth, always a goth! Iโ€™ve always loved Halloween. Any excuse to dress up and Iโ€™m there! But hereโ€™s the funny thingโ€ฆ That last photo of me with the enormous black hair, dark lipstick and attitude? THAT WASNโ€™T FANCY DRESS! ๐Ÿ˜‚ That was me back in the 80s, going about my everyday business looking like Iโ€™d just stepped out of a vampire convention! ๐Ÿฆ‡ The bigger the hair, the darker the makeup, the better! Fast forward a few decades and I still love getting dressed up. Although these days I tend to save the more dramatic outfits for special occasions! Clearly Iโ€™ve never been a shrinking violet. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Happy Halloween everyone! ๐ŸŽƒ Now tell me, were any of you goths back in the day? Or have you got some questionable 80s fashion photos hidden away? I canโ€™t be the only one! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ–ค #Halloween #80sGoth #HalloweenCostume #Over60Style #onceagoth
