Stereo Modulation with TAP TEMPO VC-LFO & GEMINI 2412
•
Using the TT-LFO to create a stereo effect with the GEMINI dual multi-mode filter into 2 separate VCAs.
A sequencer is controlling the pitch (3 VCOs and white noise), and on a second row selecting between 4 different LFO wave shapes on the TT-LFO, whilst also using gates to turn this modulation on and off using the built-in VCA. This occurs randomly, as this row is set to play in random mode, and 3 of the 7 steps are muted (no gate is sent). The TT-LFO is also synced to the sequencer.
The LFO shape then modulates the frequency of both Gemini filters simultaneously, but the level of CV influence (FCV) on one filter is set to a negative value, meaning its frequency modulation is inverted against the other filter - as one becomes brighter, the other becomes darker.
Both filters otherwise have the same settings, but sent to separate VCAs, then separate audio channels of the mixer and panned hard left and right. This means that with no modulation on some steps both filters sound the same, but with opposing modulation on other steps the stereo separation becomes apparent.
The many wave shapes of the Tap Tempo VC-LFO are very interesting for this purpose, because they can also be clocked by the sequencer as they are here, meaning synced modulation can be achieved. There is also a built-in clock multiplier/divider and ‘Twist’ function to shake things up a bit.
