In July 2025, Mathew Barzal FaceTimed lifelong Islanders fan, Tommy Ryan, while he was at the hospital being treated for cancer. In March 2026, after Tommy was in remission, him and his family attended an #Isles game at @ubsarena and met Barzal!

I’m so thankful to have seen Tommy and hear his incredible story on Fox & Friends this morning. I lost my own precious sister to leukemia and the complications from it (including graph vs host disease and sepsis). Thank you to the NY Islanders and Mat Barzal for understanding the importance of their actions on and off the ice for their fans. God Bless Tommy and his family. Keep getting stronger each day! You should be so proud of who you are, what you’ve fought so hard to get through, and how these experiences will propel you forward in life and make you even stronger. 🙏❤️
