Growing up, I dreamed of being a coach. Sharing and teaching something I loved and finding success in all the ways I could. Of course, the plan was always that it would be football, but life had other ideas. In fact, I had laid my coaching dream to rest by the time I moved back to Nebraska 4 years ago. And then a few texts and emails later, all of a sudden coaching was back in the picture, and BCHS One Act was filling a hole I never knew was there…
Through the 4 one acts, 4 high school speech seasons, 2 JH speech seasons, and spring play in the time since, I found a home and a purpose. I discovered a love for something bigger than myself and got to watch some of the most incredible human beings grow up right in front of my eyes.
Every student I have worked with over the last 4 years has made an impact on me, and I could not be more grateful for each one of them. The coaches I have gotten to know, both at BC and around the state are some of the greatest people I’ve ever met, and have each helped me to grow. And the community of Battle Creek took me in as one of its own, and gave the programs the support and encouragement they needed to find success. I am so thankful for all of you.
On that note though, this is a farewell post… Next school year, I will be stepping away from my positions at Battle Creek in order to finish college. I’ll be moving to Lincoln and attending Nebraska Wesleyan in order to pursue a B.A. with a double major in Theatre and English & Writing.
I don’t know where the road goes from here, but I’m taking the next step… So, to all of the students, coaches, parents, teachers, and administrators I’ve gotten to know and work with… Thank you. And I can’t wait to see where you all go from here. I have so much love for this community and the programs I’ve gotten to work with and as A.A. Milne so beautifully put it… “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”
