It’s hard to say

122 x 90cm
Oil and studio floor debris on board

Big paintings continue to be a struggle. Even more tumultuous and demanding than my smaller works. This piece took all year to paint, I thought I would never paint big again, sure that it wasn’t necessary and my paintings just happened to be small and intimate. But alas I kept trying to push and prove to myself that I could translate my work on a larger scale but it would just take patience (and more paint). After moving around my studio all year under different guises, in the last week of 3rd year, moments before I had to pack up and leave, it came to an end. It was finished! And so I knew it belonged in my show, because if anything helped explain my practice to myself and others it was this piece.
It is still hard to say though!!

I love hearing about your process. It's a fabulous piece of work and really packs a punch when you see it close up 🔥
