Which state has America’s worst gerrymander? After a year of redistricting battles, we have an answer. We’ve based our ranking on the results of thousands of computer simulations that draw districts without any consideration of partisanship or race. We compared each state’s map with the simulations, then sorted them according to two equally weighted measures: How many more seats the map gives one party, over the simulated estimates and how aggressive the gerrymander is, meaning how close the map is to the most extreme gerrymander we can cobble together out of the simulations. Because the simulations don’t take partisanship into account, some states are considered fair even if the map appears tilted toward one party or another. At the link in our bio, see how your state compares to others. Graphics by Eve Washington, Nate Cohn and Rumsey Taylor/The New York Times. Photo by Eric Gay/@apnews

The same thing that makes ibuprofen and other NSAIDs work on pain also lowers the protection on your stomach lining... On a recent Ask Me Anything episode, a listener asked me, “How bad is ibuprofen really?” I hear it all the time in my telehealth practice, usually from someone who wants to know if one or two for a headache or cramps is okay. Here’s what’s happening... Ibuprofen, naproxen, and aspirin are NSAIDs, and they work by blocking enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) that make prostaglandins. Prostaglandins drive inflammation, swelling, and pain, which is why blocking them helps. But they also protect your stomach lining, reduce excess stomach acid, stimulate gut-protective mucus, and support your kidneys and blood flow to your liver. So when we block them, we’re not only turning down pain. We’re turning down the things that protect your gut. The more you take and the more often you take it, the more likely you are to run into issues. But I don’t want you to be afraid of it! If one ibuprofen a month is what gets you through a day of bad cramps, or a headache is keeping you from sleep, the benefit can outweigh the risk. Use the lowest dose that works, as infrequently as you can, and if you take it regularly, check in with your doctor. If you reach for it often, it’s worth trying natural options like curcumin, boswellia, white willow bark, and magnesium, and asking what’s behind the pain in the first place. Comment PAIN and I’ll send you the article, plus my other resources. ❤️❤️ Have you ever swapped ibuprofen for something else? Tell me below what’s worked for you! #artofbeingwell #selfhealers #guthealth #inflammation #naturalremedies
