It’s quiet mornings like this that break my heart the most—the mornings where I don’t have to wake you up so we can start our day together. I never realized how much of my routine, my comfort, and my heart belonged to you until I was faced with a morning without you.
To say you were always by my side feels like the biggest understatement. You were my shadow, my constant, my best friend. No matter where I went, there you were, wanting nothing more than to be close to the people you loved. You spent your whole life giving us your heart, asking for so little in return.
Soph is going to miss her right-hand man, her protector, and her faithful sidekick. The house will feel different without the sound of your paws following us from room to room. There will be an emptiness in all the places you used to be.
And even though letting you go has been one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do, we know you deserve peace. You deserve to rest after spending a lifetime taking care of us.
I hope you knew, every single day, how deeply you were loved. Not just as a dog, but as family. As a piece of our hearts.
You were never “just a dog.” You were home.
