No one teaches us how to actually feel our feelings. By age six, most of us had already learned which emotions were acceptable to show and which ones to swallow. Don’t cry. You’re fine. Stop overreacting. The whole lesson was about keeping them quiet. So now, as adults, when something hits, like grief, hurt, resentment, dread…we try to think our way out of it. Analyze what it means about us. Figure out why. That’s where feelings get stuck. Feelings happen in the body. Chest, throat, gut, jaw etc. The thinking brain can describe them perfectly and still have no idea how to let them move through you. Harvard neuroscientist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor found that the chemical surge of any emotion lasts about 90 seconds. After that, any feeling that’s still with you is being kept alive by the thought that triggered it. Running on loop in the background. I created this guide for anyone who’s been told to “feel their feelings” without ever being shown how. I hope it helps you ❤️
