Researchers documented an unusual sexual bond between a male donkey and a bull during fieldwork in Ethiopia. The team was in the Ethiopian highlands to study gelada monkeys when they spotted Achille, a bull, and Patroclo, a male donkey, together in a nearby grazing area. Over a number of days, Achille was seen mounting Patroclo. Mounting was documented 51 times, with 34 of the events resulting in intromission. Another male donkey in the pasture flattened its ears and backed away when Achille tried the same thing. Patroclo never did, and appeared to present his hindquarters to the bull. The pair also licked, rubbed and nuzzled each other more than they did other animals, and they spent most of their observed time close together. According to the researchers, it appears to be the first documented case of a sustained same-sex sexual relationship between a bull and a donkey. The observations show animal sexual behavior can be a more complex social phenomenon than we might realize, the team says. Full story at the 🔗 in bio — @sciencealert 📖 Source: da Cruz et al. (2026). On this day in 2011, I previewed the forthcoming release of Lucifer Rising and Other Sound Tracks via my website. When I was approached to do a soundtrack for Kenneth Anger’s film Lucifer Rising, he had a half-hour edit of the first part and I suggested that he should come to my house in Plumpton and set up a playback system in my studio for his 35mm film. As it was running, I started introducing my recorded music, instrument by instrument. The glue between music and images was superb; it seemed as though they were running in sync, even though they were two separate entities that had been brought together. I continued working on the soundtrack, doubled it in length and delivered it over to Kenneth Anger. He initially included it on a partial cut of the film that was shown at film festivals and various other events. Then it got bootlegged. I decided to release the work that I had created for this project in March 2012.
