Settlement in the UK will be earned, not automatic, under the new Earned Settlement model. Instead of migrants almost automatically qualifying after five years, how long someone waits will depend on their contribution and character. Under the reforms: ➡️ The standard route to settlement will double from five to 10 years ➡️ Migrants who claim benefits face a 20-year wait for settlement ➡️ Care workers who meet the visa requirements will retain a five-year route ➡️ Higher earners on over £50,000, skilled public service workers and refugees arriving on safe and legal routes will be able to settle in five years ➡️ People who enter illegally, including by small boat, face a wait of up to 30 years to settle ➡️ Migrants will be required to meet A-level standard English to settle in the UK ➡️Migrants with a criminal record will be prevented from settling in the UK The reforms will mean those who contribute more can earn settlement sooner, while those who break the rules will wait longer or be prevented from settling permanently.
“At 8:00 AM, I’m in a white coat at the hospital, treating patients in pain. At 8:00 PM, I’m behind a DJ console, setting the stage on fire. How? Because I chose to have it all. Growing up in a village in Rajasthan, girls were raised with one silent rule: don’t cause a stir, get a degree, and settle down. Until 11th grade, I didn’t even speak English. I had asthma, and during my 12th boards, inhalers failed me; I took injections just to sit through my papers. Still, I scored a 100 in Biology, cracked NEET, and landed an All-India dental seat in Punjab. Once college started, life settled into a rigid rhythm. My hospital duties ended at 2:30 PM, leaving the rest of the afternoon wide open. One day, I randomly filled out a form to volunteer for a music company. During concerts, standing backstage and watching DJs control the entire crowd, I thought, Why not me? I pestered the DJs after the show, asking them to teach me. They showed me the basics. I bought my own console, hauled it to my hostel room, and spent my late nights teaching myself how to beat-match and drop tracks. But the backlash was instant. In college, a professor singled me out and bullied me for having a life outside medicine. It got so toxic that in third year, I had a severe panic attack and collapsed in the hallway. I had two choices: shrink to make them comfortable, or hit back harder. I kept up with my hospital attendance, studied relentlessly, and won an academic medal that year. That’s when the whispers died. Soon after, I co-founded a medical study app and continued working on my skills as a DJ. Recently, my app received funding, and the same company I had been volunteering with launched me on stage for my debut set in front of thousands. Today, my schedule is pure adrenaline. Some nights, I’m working on my startup till 5:00 AM, sleeping for two hours and then reporting for hospital duty at 8:00 AM. Once my mandatory hospital internship ends next month, I’m booking my parents front-row tickets so my dad can watch his doctor daughter own the stage. So, whether it’s a patient waiting for me at the hospital or a crowd waiting for me on stage, I have one plan: show up and give
