Day Trip to Grotto Gigante.

Whilst in Venice we promised ourselves a return to the largest tourist visitable cavern in Europe and second largest in the world, Grotto Gigante near Trieste. The largest btw is in Vietnam.
At about 365ft tall , Grotto Gigante is large enough to accommodate St Paul’s Cathedral in London and the even larger St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
Our photos simply do not do justice, so highly recommend seeing it for real.
We stumbled on Grotto Gigante last October whilst out on motorcycle ride but did not have time do a full tour or we would risk missing the embarkation time of our cruise ship. Amazingly a cave guide on his break kindly offered a free peak which so enthralled us, we promised ourselves to return one day for a full tour. So here we are, 500 steps down and 500 steps up. 🥵
