Yesterday marked three years of my sobriety, but I could not celebrate it because my grandfather, Enrique Flores, passed away on the same day. I believe he would have been proud of this achievement. I hold dear the memories of him with my grandmother and Uncle Joe, and I will strive to continue making him proud by maintaining my sobriety. Rest in peace.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I could tell by the way your grandfather looked at you that he was already proud of the man you’ve become. He got to see your strength, your heart, and the incredible journey you’ve made over the last three years. I’m so proud of you, my love. Three years of sobriety is an incredible accomplishment, and I know your grandfather would be proud of the life you’re continuing to build. I’ll be by your side through it all. I love you. ❤️

I’m not ready to quit just yet, but Mother Nature says it’s time! CHOCOLATE BANANA CAKE (adapted from prettysimplesweet.com) INGREDIENTS: ∙ 4 overripe bananas ∙ 1/2 cup brown sugar ∙ 1 tsp vanilla ∙ 1/2 cup softened butter ∙ 1/2 cup orange juice ∙ 3 tsp cinnamon ∙ 3/4 cup yogurt ∙ 1 and 2/3 cups flour ∙ 1/2 cup cocoa powder ∙ 1 tbsp baking powder ∙ 1/2 tsp baking soda ∙ 1/2 tsp salt ∙ 1/2 cup chocolate chips, plus more for the top INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a pie plate with parchment paper. 2. In a blender, mix the overripe bananas, brown sugar, egg, butter, vanilla, yogurt, cinnamon, cocoa powder and orange juice. Blend until smooth and well combined. 3. Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl (flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt). 4. Pour the blended mixture into the dry ingredients. 5. Add the chocolate chips and mix just until evenly combined. 6. Pour the batter into the parchment-lined pie plate and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean. Enjoy!
