🎯 How long did it take you
to realise that more practice
does not always make you
a better dancer?

Sometimes, practising harder
only makes the wrong pattern stronger.

➡️

You practise.
You repeat.
You try again.

But somehow,
the movement still feels stuck.

And you start wondering:

“Why am I not improving?”

➡️

🤔 So you assume the answer is:

More classes.
More steps.
More hours.
More repetition.

But what happens when
more practice is not the solution?

💡 Repetition does not automatically
create improvement.

Repetition strengthens
whatever you are already doing.

The good patterns.

And the patterns
you do not realise are holding you back.

You may be repeating:

The same tension.
The same timing mistake.
The same hesitation.
The same loss of balance.

Not because you are incapable.

But because you cannot correct
what you do not yet notice.

🧠 You do not always need
more practice.

Sometimes, you need:

More awareness.
More clarity.
Better feedback.

Because practice only works
when you understand
what needs to change.

This is what a good teacher gives you.

Not only more steps.

Not only more repetition.

A good teacher helps you see
what you cannot yet see alone.

The small detail
that changes the entire movement.

Sometimes, one clear correction
can move you forward more than
one hundred unfocused repetitions.

Practice gives you experience.

Awareness turns that experience
into progress.

If you are practising consistently
but still feel stuck,

you may not need to work harder.

You may simply need
the right feedback.

Send me a private message
and tell me what you are struggling with.

I will help you understand
what may be holding you back.

Such is the wisdom of 'not knowing what we do not know'. Of seeing the capacity a cup will holds. That comes once the question of half full or half empty has been let go.

Also, I love this. @arthssantos I think we are of the same mind on many things, I also preach and teach awareness first - "you can't change what you can't detect" is such a great phrasing of the idea *chef's kiss* 🤌💋

this was one of the first myths they dispelled when I began professional dance training in college. My very first dance teacher, I'll never forget, said "if you repeat it badly a thousand times, you get really good at doing it badly, each repetition you should be assessing what happened so that the next attempt is at least *different*" Another way to phrase it is "practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent" All different ways to express the same idea, be intentional and mindful with your training. If you just "drill it till you kill it" - there's a good chance you'll never get there.

Practice doesn’t make perfect. Purposeful practice does. 💯
