PETER ERSKINE โ€” EVERYTHING IS TIMEKEEPING (1989)! ๐Ÿฅ Some of the most IMPORTANT lessons in drumming have NOTHING to do with speed or how many notes you can squeeze into a measure. And few drummers understand that better than PETER ERSKINE! In 1989, Peter released his instructional video Everything Is Timekeeping, and I think the philosophy behind that title is something EVERY drummer should understand. Because EVERYTHING we play is TIMEKEEPING! Whether itโ€™s a simple groove, an elaborate fill, or an extended solo, our responsibility to the MUSIC never changes. Throughout the video, Peter explores jazz ride cymbal technique, independence, improvisation, and musical phrasing. But what fascinates me most is his approach to TIME and FEEL. He demonstrates how something as SIMPLE as playing quarter notes on a ride cymbal can become a lesson in TOUCH, DYNAMICS, and SWING. Itโ€™s not necessarily WHAT you play. Itโ€™s HOW you play it! Watching Peter perform alongside guitarist JOHN ABERCROMBIE and bassist MARC JOHNSON brings that philosophy to life. The way these musicians LISTEN and RESPOND to one another is extraordinary. Peter can play the simplest phrase imaginable and make it feel INCREDIBLE! No unnecessary tension. No desperate attempt to fill every available space. Just CONTROL, CONFIDENCE, and MUSICALITY. And weโ€™re talking about a drummer whose career includes WEATHER REPORT, STEPS AHEAD, and collaborations with some of the greatest musicians in jazz! What I LOVE about this video is that the lessons extend FAR beyond jazz. ROCK, METAL, FUNK, JAZZ. It doesnโ€™t matter. The fundamental responsibility is the same. Make the MUSIC FEEL GOOD! Because great timekeeping isnโ€™t just about maintaining a consistent tempo. Itโ€™s about creating a FEEL that other musicians can build upon. Nearly four decades later, Everything Is Timekeeping remains an INCREDIBLE resource. If you havenโ€™t seen it, I HIGHLY recommend checking it out! Sometimes the most impressive thing a drummer can do is make the SIMPLEST thing sound extraordinary. #drums #drumvideo #jazz #jazzdrums #jazzdrummer
My name is Megan. I love for you, I weep for you, I perform for you. ๐ŸŒน I am an actress and a filmmaker, inspired by the golden age of cinema, by vintage glamour and the beautiful shadows of classic horror. Born, I sometimes feel, a few generations too late for this world, I have found my place in the cinema, and in my great love affair with my beloved Kino. And that love affair extends to you, my darling audience, who watch me in the darkness as I turn towards you in the flickering light of the screen and smile. For though you may see me only in shadow, your bright eyes and warm smiles are candles in the dark that warm my soul. These beautiful photographs were taken by the @brewsterbrothersphotography on the eve of my latest feature film, which begins shooting tomorrow. I do hope you will join me on this next adventure, and perhaps wish me a little luck, with a passing hug and the fleeting sweetness of an embrace. With all my love, Megan ๐Ÿ–ค #vintageglamour #classiccinema #classichorror #actresslife #gothicromance
