Traci Chee’s We Are Not Free is a deeply moving novel that brings history alive through the collective voices of 14 Japanese American teenagers experiencing forced removal and incarceration by the US during World War II. By focusing on themes of friendship, family, first loves, and resilience behind barbed wire, Chee represents the strength, struggles, and courage of those imprisoned. Powerful, vibrant, and compelling. #ya #youngadult #summerreading #historicalfiction @clymerlibrary
