Rape & Sexual Torture of Palestinian Detainees The UN has verified sexual violence against 31 Palestinian detainees, including nine victims of rape or gang rape, some repeatedly. Documented abuses include anal rape with objects, gang rape, attempted rape, genital violence, forced nudity and sexual torture. Several victims suffered rectal bleeding or injuries afterward. Cases were documented across multiple Israeli detention facilities, including Sde Teiman, Ofer, Megiddo and Etzion. Israeli human-rights organization B'Tselem separately collected numerous detainee testimonies describing sexual and genital abuse. Human Rights Watch, OHCHR, UN investigators and international journalists have documented additional overlapping accounts. The highly publicized Sde Teiman case resulted in Israeli soldiers being investigated after a Palestinian detainee suffered severe internal/rectal injuries. Bottom line: These are no longer solely unverified prisoner allegations: UN investigators have independently verified multiple cases of rape and sexual violence against Palestinian detainees, although not every individual allegation has been independently established.
