In 1951, Doria Shafik led 1,500 women into Egypt’s parliament.

They demanded the vote, equal pay, and legal reform.

So the government did what governments do when women get too loud:

They tried to erase her.

Doria Shafik was not forgotten because she was quiet.

She was erased because she was too loud.

After the political parties were dissolved, Doria Shafik spoke out against the regime, calling it a dictatorship. Sadly, no one stood up for her—not even members of the Egyptian feminist movement.
