AIA26 in San Diego — done.
First time attending, and it was a full few days of learning, reconnecting, and a lot of walking the expo floor.
Went to a few great keynote sessions, including Shigeru Ban (and yes, got the book signed).
Spent time with manufacturers, saw a ton of new tools and AI-driven workflows showing up in design and construction, and sat in on sessions that made it pretty clear how much the industry is shifting right now.
Also got to reconnect with friends, former colleagues and contractors — which is always one of the best parts of these conferences. And yes… architects can be friends with contractors too.
We also co-led the Gaylord Pacific tour, which was a nice moment to step back and see the project through other people’s eyes. Big thanks to the team on the ground for making it all run smoothly.
Somewhere between puppies at the turf booth, static electricity experiments, and way too many conversations, I’m heading back with a full notebook and even fuller brain.
Good trip. Good people. Good reminder of why we do this work. Special Thanks to my company and colleagues for allowing me this incredible opportunity!
