The greatest coaches I’ve seen and had, have always been stellar when it came to giving their athletes true confidence. Those coaches are also clearly confident in their abilities, because they know they’re doing the work it takes.
Confidence is such a low hanging fruit. And yes everyone eats that fruit, but ask yourself are you actually eating it every day? Are you able to keep that confidence alive? Sure there’ll be days where you’re down, but we have to go after confidence no matter what. That’s why it helps to do the work.. becuase then the confidence has something to stand on.
All that to say… within my own coaching, and training as an athlete, I’ve been coming back to confidence as being the root of what I do. I’ve found myself drifting away from it a number of times in the past, and whenever I think about how I can be a better coach or athlete, I usually come back to breeding confidence.
@daniellshin inspired this for me. Every few months when we catch up, we’ll talk about our years playing bball and talk about our amazing coaches (or lack thereof). And this topic of confidence always comes back up. Serves as a good reminder for me to make sure I’m focusing on the right things.
