5 years ago, I moved to Canada going into my last year of high school. I wasn’t sure what career I wanted to pursue in or what school I wanted to go to. It was also a weird time because covid was still very much a thing. At the time, I didn’t fully understand how this decision would change my life.
It wasn’t till a year after graduating that I figured out that I wanted to study communications/PR. And honesty, it was the best decision I ever made because it led me to a program I really love, new opportunities, and someone really special to me.
The past 5 years have been full of so many versions of myself. The girl who was trying to figure her life out, the girl who was homesick and ready to give up, the girl who was learning how to be more independent, the girl who found her passion, and the girl who started to build a life here.
Canada has given me so many memories, from school and work to new friends, new places, and moments I never expected. It hasn’t always been easy, but looking back, I’m really grateful for this chapter and everything it has taught me.
5 years later, I’m still coming out of my shell and figuring things out, but I’m doing something that I love with the people I love supporting me. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come, and I would give anything to tell 17-year-old Kayla that she is going to find her way.
