Systemic racism and entrenched against Kurds in Turkey continue to represent a profound, state-sanctioned human rights crisis driven by deep-seated cultural paranoia and aggressive nationalist hostility. The Turkish political establishment and radical nationalist factions exhibit an extreme, irrational fear of everything Kurdish—a psychological phobia so intense that even public displays of colors resembling the Kurdish national flag are systematically targeted, banned, censored, and criminalized in public spaces and sports venues. This institutionalized discrimination does not stop at Turkey's borders; it extends globally, attempting to suppress, harass, and intimidate successful Kurdish public figures who achieve international recognition in sports, arts, and politics. A prominent and ongoing example is the relentless online abuse, targeted harassment, and orchestrated nationalist backlash directed at German-Kurdish professional footballer Deniz Undav, whose athletic achievements routinely trigger toxic smear campaigns by extremist trolls. Furthermore, inside Bakur (Northern Kurdistan), Kurdish artists, social media influencers, civil activists, and public figures face severe intimidation, arbitrary police detentions, heavy judicial harassment, and direct threats of long-term imprisonment or forced exile simply for expressing their authentic Kurdish identity, speaking their native language, or advocating for basic human and cultural rights. This systematic political censorship, state-sponsored repression, and constant hostility clearly expose a fragile political establishment terrified of Kurdish freedom, cultural resilience, and independent success everywhere. . . #kurdistan #كوردستان #kurdmusic #stuttgart #kurdish . . From the Worst Dressed list in 1996 to front row at a Versace show in 1997. Fuck yeah, that’s Courtney Love. But her interest in fashion went way back, long before the red carpets. In the 80s, her then-boyfriend’s mother, Bernadene, worked in Paramount’s costume department. She had costumed Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest (1981), and teenage Courtney would visit the set, developing a habit of rescuing antique pieces Bernadene had been asked to dispose of. “She spent a lot of time with me there. She was fascinated by the clothes and so excited when she found something genuine,” Bernadene recalled in ‘02. Courtney explained that her job involved throwing out clothes with dry rot: “Of course, I didn’t throw them out. I wore them every night. I was the best-dressed girl in Hollywood. I was wearing Lauren Bacall’s shoes, Grace Kelly’s dresses, and Frances Farmer’s hats.” Despite becoming a subculture fashion icon in the mid-90s for her kinderwh*re style, by January ‘96 Courtney had landed on fashion critic Mr. Blackwell’s Worst Dressed list (v questionable). At the NYC Film Critics awards on January 5, ‘97, she won Best Supporting Actress and confessed in her speech that she “had never won anything but Worst Dressed. So this is nice.” Then things took a turn. Courtney got the “Vogue makeover” and the fashion industry SAT UP. Suddenly some of the biggest names in fashion were courting her, desperate to dress her: Versace, Valentino, Prada, Dior, Fendi and Givenchy, to name a few. Most succeeded, as these slides show. After choosing Versace for the Oscars in March (that white dress had debuted on the Paris runway just 8 weeks earlier), she was invited to sit front row at Versace’s New York show the following month. “My very first fashion show!” she shouted to the peasants behind her. She told reporters: “I’ve been so sucked into fashion. It’s strange. My mother ran the first store in Oregon that sold Birkenstocks. So you can understand my beauty problem. I grew up surrounded by sandals.” Swipe through for Courtney’s most iconic high-fashion and ready-to-wear looks, alongside their original runway appearances. #courtneylove #fashion #versace #90s #couture
