[MAAMOUL MOLD]
Pitch - @studiotuut

A few months ago, I participated in an open call initiated by Studio Tuut to create a maamoul mold. I wasn't familiar with creating a 3D product, but it peaked my interest and decided to test my creativity anyway. I used clay as a medium and molded the shape together through trial and error.

This maamoul mold began as a simple observation of sunrays; soft, radiating lines that feel both powerful and calm at the same time. Instead of following the typical approach of a central circle with rays extending out, the idea shifted toward something more fluid and interpretive. I started exploring the movement of waves, borrowing from the natural rhythm found in both light and water. These curves felt more alive, less rigid.

From there, the concept evolved into four interconnected wave forms, allowing them to meet and merge seamlessly. Removing the typical center point shifted the focus entirely, letting the eye move continuously rather than settle on a single focal point. The result is a form that feels almost cosmic, like a quiet nod to the way elements in the universe orbit, overlap, and coexist in balance with one another.

The design carries a sense of motion, even when still. Each curve leads into the next, creating a continuous loop that suggests infinity and connection rather than separation. There’s something intentional yet effortless in how the shapes come together; an organic structure that feels as though it could have formed naturally, yet is carefully composed. This balance between control and spontaneity reflects the way patterns exist in nature. Nothing is random, but nothing feels forced. When pressed into the dough, the mold captures this flow, translating it into a tactile experience that mirrors the original idea.

In the end, it became less about representing the sun directly and more about capturing its energy: how things flow, connect, and exist in harmony, both in nature and on a larger, almost cosmic scale.
