Flower Vendor For Dia de Muertos Allegedly Taken By ICE A woman selling flowers on the corner of Alpine Ave and California St is alleging that her husband was taken this morning by ICE agents in all black SUV’s. The alleged agents did not approach her, but were only interesting in taking the man. Local activists have gone to the local ICE facility in Stockton, but no announcement confirming the ordeal has yet been released. The vendors sell these Cempaxochitl (Mexican marigolds)- which means 20 Flower in Nahuatl the language of the Aztecs- every November for Mexicans to honor their ancestor and loved ones who have passed away in what is known as Dia de Muertos. The tradition goes back to ancient times and is an indigenous Mexican ritual. The Mexica (Aztecs) held two festivals called the Hueymiccahuitl and Miccahuitl (great feast and feast of the dead) every year. The tradition has survived and continued despite forced conversion to Christianity or ICE raids. 🌼 💀 📸 @209timesenespanol
Credit cards at the ready! That box nearly flattened me, I ordered quite late, but it’s here, heavier than ever, and I’m hoping it means a happy spring next year. And it’s inspired me to hopefully inspire YOU if you’ve still not placed a single bulb order… This week’s newsletter is the full shopping list for my absolute must-have perennial bulbs for my five month pots, more if you count the dahlias that come after. Every bulb, every supplier, every price, as it stood on Wednesday. Plus the international list so many of you have been asking me to put together. Full disclosure, Karen at Peter Nyssen (a friend as well as a supplier) popped a few free trial bulbs into my order. Everything else I’ve paid for myself, no affiliate links, no being paid to promote anything. Just my honest, real thoughts on the best bulbs you can still buy right now. The first bit’s free for everyone. The rest is behind the garden gate.
Comment YES PLEASE and I’ll send you the link.
Know someone convinced they’ve missed the window this year? Forward this to them. Because they haven’t.
Have a lovely evening won’t you, I’ll FINALLY get time to be out in MY garden!
All love, as ever, AMP x
PS. There’s a live Substack catch-up with you lovely people on the cards soon. I miss you enormously! Dates to follow next week. .
