I was contemplating for this caption to be “give me a list of the reasons you’re tired” but you know what I’ve realized lately makes me most tired of all? WRITING THE DAMN LISTS.

I am so tired of scanning my life for what’s needed, what’s broken, who needs tending to, what’s missing, where to next, who needs help that even the thought of “what’s for dinner” can bring me to a state of overwhelm some days. My brain has been filled to the brim of fixing and caretaking and keeping dangers at bay since I was a little girl and I woke up one morning and just realized I don’t want to do it anymore?? The mental load is so real and I don’t know what my life would be without it (lighter, I imagine!).

So I’m trying to write less lists. And am trying this weird practice called “resting”(???) - getting horizontal - literally just lying down - once a day (way, way harder than it sounds).

Ok so some questions: Did you grow up watching your mother rest? Do you rest well today? If so, how did you learn?

I talk about overwhelm and mental load and the ancestral tiredness women have in their bones on last and this weeks podcast of @fromtheheartpodcast ❤️ #tired

Hi love ....this fully resonates with exactly what I have been experiencing & navigating the past few weeks....I was calling it stopping but it felt harsh so after some inquiry I have decided to call it rest and pause ⏸️ It has been overwhelming to unweave the pattern of just push through & keep going. Thank you for sharing, I will have a listen for sure! See you in October ✨️Sending Love ❤️

My mom only rested in front of the TV, but I would’ve loved to see her really rest. My dad definitely knew how to meditate and Lay in a hammock and meditate more.

I am always exhausted. I always have lists in my head of things to do and people to take care of. I rarely saw my mom rest. Her rest was late at night for very little while she still got other things done. And I have a hard time resting myself. Some days I just have to sit in complete silence and do nothing to reset. But I’m working on slowing down and doing less myself.

I feel this so deeply…was just talking to my significant other about this yesterday. I asked if he’s ever taken a day to do nothing for work but for himself. I know this was more tailored toward women but I feel it applies everywhere. We are taught to keep moving, no matter what, otherwise we’re “lazy” or unmotivated. I have to make a conscious effort to slow down, to take time in nature and enjoy seeing the beauty around me. It’s everywhere if we take the time to rest and open our eyes to the world around us! To find ultimately what truly matters. 🤍

This showed up when I needed It, I have a brain injury and I have had to slow down and live a slower life yet the urgency to be doing more seems to have doubled 😬
