Kitakyushu: The Day Trip Most Tourists Skip 🏯

Most tourists stick to Fukuoka City, but Kitakyushu — Fukuoka Prefecture’s second biggest city — is only 15 minutes away by shinkansen and totally worth the trip. Centered around Kokura, this city has a castle, a Japanese garden, shopping streets, and a station that feels like an airport (the monorail literally runs right into it).

💡 Travel Tip: Take the express train instead of the shinkansen if you’re on a budget — it’s about 50 minutes and roughly half the price.
