When you hear another kid tell your kid โ€œyou canโ€™t play with us,โ€ it can hit you right in the chest. Of course you want to march over and fix it. Hereโ€™s what I want you to do instead: 1๏ธโƒฃ Remember this is not an emergency. Itโ€™s painful, but only emergencies need urgent action. 2๏ธโƒฃ Just watch. Say nothing for 10, 20, 30 seconds. Your kid might handle it before you ever have to step in. 3๏ธโƒฃ Think about the future. Your kid is learning patterns now that will play out when theyโ€™re 18, 25. You want them to know they have coping skills, not that someone will always swoop in to solve it. 4๏ธโƒฃ Hold back on โ€œYou have to let my kid play.โ€ When we do that, weโ€™re teaching our kid they should want to be accepted by people who arenโ€™t being kind to them. If it still stings later, for them or for you, thatโ€™s okay too. You can say something like: โ€œThat was a hard moment at the park. Iโ€™m here if you want to talk about it.โ€ Then let them lead.
We love football โ€ผ๏ธ
