Learn to spin on a drop spindle! Friends, I am teaching a spinning workshop at the Oceanview branch of SF public library on Saturday, July 18 from 2:00-4:00. Attendance is free but you need to register. Space is limited so call to get your name on the list: 415-355-5615. In this workshop, we will learn to turn wool into yarn. What are the properties of wool? How does twist create yarn? We’ll work step by step through the process of making yarn with a simple tool—the spindle. You’ll go home with supplies to continue, and the ability to make your own yarn. We’ll start with a simple method called “park and draft”, learn to make a single ply yarn, control the twist and diameter of your yarn, make a two ply yarn, and finish your final yarn. I’ll also give you tips for troubleshooting. I will supply 2 ounces of wool and a drop spindle that you can take home.
