Iokwe from the Marshall Islands 🇲🇭
A few incredible weeks across the islands of Majuro, Arno, Mili and Jaluit as part of the ‘Strengthening Coastal Protection and Food Security for Rural Climate Resilience´ project.
Listening to communities, visiting coastal hotspots, travelling between atolls, and learning how coastal resilience connects with food security, access, water, local resources and everyday life.
This is truly paradise, but some challenges are real: visible sea-level rise on coastal change, saltwater intrusion, and the lasting legacy of WWII and nuclear testing in the region.
Some of the best lessons came directly from communities where livelihoods are changing, on which local vegetation help protect the coast, and what solutions are practical to build and maintain locally.
Grateful to be part of this special project - Thanks to the people and Government of the Marshall Islands, to the wider project team and collaborators.
