Meet Thomas Martin – based in Toronto, he is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing & Painting at OCAD University. His practice explores relationships, gender, melancholy, and fleeting moments through an illustrative and surrealist lens. Layered drawings are paired with expansive fields of colour, creating texture, depth, and multiple dimensions within each composition. For him, art serves as a form of catharsis and a daily practice of self-regulation. Working primarily with oil paint, pastels, and expressive linework, he creates richly textured works that invite viewers to uncover new details and meanings with each encounter. Drawn to large-scale paper and canvas, he allows his subconscious to guide the creative process, breaking down complex emotions and ideas into intimate visual motifs that evoke atmosphere, memory, and human connection.
