one thing i’ll always be grateful for is the mind that i have.
i could lose all things, but never my faith and self-belief.
ten months ago, i was homeless. struggling to find another rental, couch surfing, spending nights in my storage unit, working wherever i could and doing whatever i had to just to get by.
as long as my mum and sister were taken care of, i was fine.
i’d lie to a lot of my close friends about where i was sleeping because i didn’t want them worrying about me.
during that period, i had a massive fight with my mum that severed our relationship for a while. my relationship at the time ended too.
i was just going through it. on and off. working here and there, trying to figure everything out.
then new year’s eve came.
i got a call and a text from my boss saying money had gone missing. he blamed me, then the other people i worked with.
i’ve never stolen a thing in my life. i care way too much about how i carry myself to ever do some shit like that.
i remember it vividly.
the stuff i had kept at work was thrown out onto the road in the rain.
my best friend came with me to pick my things up off the road and dropped me at the train station.
three bags.
that was everything i had as i moved to the sunshine coast.
this shit felt like a script out of a movie.
the emotional weight and domino effect of it all could kill someone
not numb to it.
just strong enough to carry it.
maybe a little stubborn too.
all i knew was that this wasn’t what i wanted my life to look like.
that has been an ongoing theme for me.
i never really had many good examples of what things were supposed to look like. i just knew what i didn’t want to become.
i looked at the bad examples in front of me and chose differently.
i knew life didn’t have to look like this.
and even now, i’m not where i want to be.
but i’m grateful.
the same way i was grateful back then, just with a little more behind me.
because i know what it’s like to be in the trenches.
i know what it’s like to have everything go wrong.
i know what it’s like to lose it all and have to start again.
and more than anything, i’m grateful for the mind i’ve built through it all.
a whole lot of space
