The famous drawing of Renato - Alfonso's son and the cartoonish figure with arm bolted up and finger wagging to order another espresso - becomes a fascist call to arms through a twist of the imagination.
Over five canvases, Alfonso’s life spans the emergence of a war, young love, employment in a factory, and an experience at artschool. Running parallel in the background there is regime change, and an ideological movement akin to those that dominated the early 20th century.
The series takes its structure from Philip Guston’s Nixon drawings and Charlotte Salomon's Life or Theatre?
