The “Long on Sausage” boys enjoying a river corridor bisecting a 24.3 million acre UNESCO world heritage site.
Beginning the trip in Dalton Post, Yukon you quickly reach the northwest corner of British Columbia before finally entering southeast Alaska and finishing in the tiny fishing community of Dry Bay.
At just 120 miles long, it’s not the longest river trip or the most daring in terms of rapids but it more than makes up for these things in raw beauty. You would have a hard time finding yourself in a more remote place- further from human habitation and even help.
It took ten years of waiting on a very long and eager list for this permit to come to fruition. It was also ten years since I’d seen it last and even longer since I’d seen some of these characters that I can now call brothers.
We were blessed with dry weather, a bocce ball set, a skillful crew and delicious food lovingly prepared.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to
@haines_rafting_co for outfitting our dream trip and to the owner,
@andy.hedden , for hiring all of us goofballs a decade and a half ago.
PS: if you find yourself lucky enough to make it down this beautiful river and out to Dry Bay, please see Brent and Katelynn at
@alsekriveradventures where you will find yourself treated to the simple luxuries of a shower, laundry for your plane clothes, a cozy night sleep in their hand built cabins, a salmon dinner and great company!
