When a bowling ball vanishes beneath the pins, it enters a hidden mechanical system designed to return it within seconds. Under the lane, the ball is separated from the fallen pins before being guided into a collection area beneath the pinsetter.
A powered wheel or belt then pushes the ball onto an underground return track. Using a combination of machinery, gravity and momentum, it travels through a narrow tunnel running beneath the lane and back toward the player.
Near the front, a lift raises the ball onto the return rack beside the seating area. What looks like a simple roll is actually a carefully timed loop of tracks, belts and moving parts working together so the ball is ready for the next throw.
