Trusting the math is half the battle for long range shooting. But the math is only good if you input your variables correctly. Once you gain confidence with your dope you can focus on the other aspects of long range shooting such as wind and building positions. The last thing you want during a competition or a hunt is to double guess or doubt your ballistics.
