i’ve got 36 hours to take 1,000 stories to parliament - comment ‘change’ for the survey

ever since my appointment to the @britishbeautycouncil i’ve been dreaming of a moment like this. starting ruka was more than just being about selling product or fundraising announcements. it has always been about becoming an advocate for the essential education, real innovation and now, real policy that protects us.

i’ve been invited to present evidence to parliament that will shape regulation for hair extensions going forward on Tues 3 Nov 2026.

@rukahair we’ve spent years investing in building the best fibre and striving for a higher standard than the market. without the support of real legislation, we invested in international lawyers and global labs for a safer, sustainable and ethical supply chain. but we know it’s not enough, and we can’t do it alone. protecting this community isn’t about instilling fear, but innovating for better choices and developing nuanced, scientific standards that institutionalise protection before it shows up on your scalp.

so i’m asking for three policies: we want extensions being imported into the country or being produced in the country to be vetted for (a) their origins (b) what they’re made of / composition (c) a definition of safety with regulatory limits of ingredients

but i can’t walk in there with just my story. i need yours. and i need them in the next 36 hours. so, if you’ve ever worn braiding hair, a wig or extensions, this is the one time your answer goes somewhere that can actually change something.

I recently came across a Bloomberg report on South Korea’s “texthip” trend, where reading physical books and joining book clubs have become fashionable again.

It got me wondering: are we all craving a little more offline time?

From vinyl records and film cameras to journaling and phone-free cafés, I’m exploring whether analogue living is making a comeback across Asia.

Are you hooked on an analogue hobby? Or do you know a community or business embracing the offline world?

Especially keen to hear from people in Singapore and across Asia. Drop a comment or DM me. Your story might make it into my next report! 🎥
