If you would have to me this time last year that I would not be leading a small group, but also being apart of the decision team I would have said you were crazy. Imagine uploading your electricity bill, rent, student loan or medical expenses to an app and having a wealthy stranger choose to pay it for you. That unusual idea went viral after X user Destiny Ndlovu posted about creating a platform where people could list their unpaid bills and “bored billionaires” could swipe right to cover them. The concept quickly caught attention online and inspired independent developers to explore turning it into a real service. One example is Pay My Billy, which uses a swipe-based interface to connect people posting bills with potential donors. The idea also raises important questions about how such a platform would work in practice. Developers would need reliable systems to verify bills, prevent fraudulent requests, protect sensitive financial information and ensure that donations reach the intended service providers. Some platforms are still demonstrations rather than fully operational payment services. So while the concept has potential as an alternative approach to crowdfunding and direct financial assistance, it was not an app proposal from Elon Musk.
